We know the rising cost of living is affecting many people, but we still need the support of compassionate people like you to help animals in need. 

Our shelter staff don't stop caring for animals in care. Our veterinary team doesn’t stop assessing and treating injuries, and our inspectors don’t stop attending rescues day in and day out.  

Without them, animals like Sol wouldn’t have had a second chance. 

Responding to a cruelty report, our inspectors came across Sol lying on the concrete in her owner’s backyard, unmoving. You could barely see her beneath the large matts of hair, dirt and faeces that covered her body.  

The matting was so severe, our inspectors knew Sol needed to be immediately taken back to the shelter for assessment. 

It will come as no surprise how appalled our veterinary team were. Electrical wire, Christmas tinsel, dirt, faeces, all embedded in wads of fur that filled the room with an overwhelming stench. There was no way to assess whether Sol had any concerning injuries beneath the mountain of rot that hung from every limb.  

“No animal should be allowed to get even close to this state – the whole situation is appalling.”  

Sol was referred to a local veterinary clinic who had the skills and knowledge to professionally groom her under sedation. The staff there would need to painstakingly shave, wash and clip her fur all the way back to her skin. Only then could they see how overgrown her nails were and how her skin was covered in dry, itchy dandruff. 

The removed coat weighed 6.4kg, that’s the same weight of a bowling ball. Can you imagine the relief sweet Sol must have felt when she was free?  

“This beautiful-natured dog had been left to suffer the burden and discomfort of her chronically overgrown, unkempt fur to the point where her most comfortable position was to remain lying down.”  

It’s thanks to the compassionate support of people like you that our team were able to save Sol.  

Without you, no one would have known about Sol’s condition. Without you, there would have been no veterinary team on hand to assess and treat her.

Without you, Sol would never have experienced a life free from pain and neglect.
